Governor Calls Legislature into Special Session

capitol-drawingApril 24, 2017 at 10am, the Legislature will begin a special session. The regular session was scheduled to end on Sunday the 23rd; however, lawmakers have been unable to negotiate a state budget deal.  This is the seventh time in the last 10 years that the legislature has had to use a special session to complete its work.

At stake for Adult Family Home owners is the funding for the 2017-2019 negotiated rate increases.  The two versions of the budget take dramatically different approaches.  The House of Representatives proposed a budget that fully funds the AFH contract. The Senate version does not include funding for the contract.  The Council is working with lawmakers to express the critical nature of this rate increase.

You can join in the conversation by writing directly to your elected officials.  Follow this link to find out who represents your district.  This will give you the option to send them email.  Ask them to fully fund the adult family homes’ contract.  This contract will move adult family homes closer to a fair reimbursement model and create better access for those seeking care, reducing the use of skilled nursing/hospital beds for non-acute residents.
