In response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, the Department of Health and the Department of Social and Health Services are providing information abut how to manage and contain the outbreak.
What may be most important to know is that using infection controls and universal precautions can reduce the risk of the virus spreading.
The population of adult family homes residents, considering their comorbidity and often frail health are at increased risk from the virus.
DSHS attempted to contact every licensed facility in the state to ask if they have any residents who may be infected, if you have a infection controls in place, if you need personal protective equipment (PPE) and if you have emergency supplies in case a quarantine was required.
We have also had reports of homes being contacted by vendors of PPE asking if equipment was needed and then offering it at significantly inflated prices. Our state’s Attorney General’s office is seeking the names and contact information of such vendors as that type of crisis price gouging is not legal. WE have been advised that if you do have a need for PPE, contact your reginal health department as supplies are being rationed as the outbreak is managed.
