Hearing Scheduled for Senate Bill 5060

Senate Bill 5060 which would limit the number of adult family homes allowed in a four block radius, has been scheduled for a hearing Monday at 10am in Olympia.  For more info on the hearing click here
The Council will be there to testify in opposition of this bill. If any multiple home owners who would be directly affected by this change are interested in coming and sharing the potential impact on their business, please contact the Council office. The Adult Family Home Council has already sent a letter to the Chairs of the health care committees asking them not to consider this bill.

We urge adult family home operators if you have not yet, please comment on these bills.
These bills would have a negative impact on the further development of adult family homes as well as an impact to current providers.

You can submit your comments at the following links:

Here is proposed wording you can include in the comments. Instructions on how to submit your comments are below. Please share with your fellow providers, families, and staff. And if you have not yet registered, please consider coming to our Lobby Day January 24th.

I write to you in regards to Senate Bill 5060 and House Bill 1383. These bills would create unnecessary restrictions on adult family homes. The same chapter of statute the bills propose to amend, already state that any restrictions or prohibitions of the use of property for an adult family home (RCW 70.128):
(i) Are contrary to the public interest served by establishing adult family homes and
(ii) Discriminate against individuals with disabilities in violation of RCW 49.60.224.

In addition, these bills are contrary to the continued development of Washington’s nationally recognized long term care system. We face an increased demand for care and caregivers we will likely be unable to meet. Now is not the time for needlessly limiting options.

Finally, this bill does not make provisions for many businesses that would be in violation of this proposed statute change. This bill would actually reduce the available resources and cause some business to close.

I urge you to oppose these bills

  1. There shouldn’t be limition on numbers of adult homes in localit,as long we are adhering to lawful regulation from the state . Having more Afh in locality it advantage to resident& family as there vibrant competition to achieve good standard care .
